Lace up your skates and check those bike tires – Plano students are biking, skating and walking to school on Oct. 7.
Plano ISD students and families are encouraged to ditch the car and take a more active route to class Oct. 7 for National Walk, Bike and Roll to School Day.
The district is participating in the national event in conjunction with the North Central Texas Council of Governments. The event promotes healthy habits, a cleaner environment and safer routes to and from school while encouraging students, parents and staff to commute together, a news release said.
Participants are encouraged to begin their routes about 30 minutes before school starts. Plano ISD recommends starting at 7:10 a.m. for elementary schools, 7:55 a.m. for middle schools and 8:30 a.m. for high schools.
Planned safety routes are available within a two-mile radius of each participating campus. Families who live farther away can carpool to a location near the two-mile radius, park and complete the rest of the trip by walking, biking or rolling to school, the district said in the release.
National Walk, Bike and Roll to School Day takes place Wednesday, Oct. 7.
