LUBBOCK, Texas — Alcohol use among college students is declining, but addiction specialists say nicotine vaping remains a concern.
In 2014, about 35% of college students reported binge drinking. By 2025, that number had dropped to about 20%.
Addiction specialist Zach Sneed says the shift shows how substance use among young adults is changing.

While fewer students are reporting binge drinking, vaping has become more common among young adults. Sneed says nicotine can be especially concerning because students may not realize how quickly vaping can become a daily habit.
Sneed also warns that most vaping products are not approved by the FDA. He says nicotine can quickly become part of a student’s daily routine before they realize they are developing a habit
For students struggling with alcohol or nicotine use, addiction specialists encourage them to seek help and talk with a health care professional.
