A pedestrian critically injured in late October in Arlington died last week, according to a news release from the Arlington Police Department.

On Oct. 27, shortly after 7 a.m., officers were dispatched to the 5900 block of Kelly Elliott Road to investigate a reported crash, the release said.

On arriving, police said they found a man seriously injured after being struck by a sport utility vehicle. The man was taken to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead about 10 days later.

Investigators determined that the driver of the SUV made a turn on a green turn signal and hit the man as he walked into the crosswalk.

“The driver of the vehicle immediately stopped, remained on scene, and was cooperative with the investigation,” the release said.

Police said no criminal charges have been filed in this incident.

The pedestrian has been identified as 57-year-old Carlos Mendez, according to records from the Tarrant County medical examiner’s office.

Police said Mendez was using a crosswalk when he was struck, but it is unknown whether he entered the crosswalk at the direction of a traffic signal.
