Heavy rainfall across the Texas capital area this week spurred flash flooding across large swaths of Texas, as well as is prompting road closures and alerts from local officials to avoid impacted low-water crossings and affected areas.
Here are the flooding-induced road closures in the greater Austin area. Those needing to travel in the region can also refer to the City of Austin’s Flood Early Warning System website for real-time road closure updates before beginning their commute.
The Texas Department of Transportation’s Austin District incidents page also tracks any major crashes, high water zones or other impacts to area highways. On Thursday afternoon, October 1, officials confirmed reports of high water present on Interstate 35 frontage roads as a result of rainstorms in the region.
As of about 3:20 p.m. on Thursday, there are currently five road closures in the Austin-area after rainstorms and flooding.
