Even though it’s still hot in Texas, the fall season often brings cozy vibes and warm drinks with pumpkin spice and cinnamon flavors. Unfortunately, a cinnamon seasoning sold in six states, including Texas, may have elevated levels of lead, prompting an official recall.
Galil Importing Corp has recalled Lior Cinnamon Ground Seasoning after the Maryland Department of Health detected elevated levels of lead in a product sample. According to the recall, Lior Cinnamon Ground Seasoning was distributed to retail stores in Texas, New York, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Florida and Illinois from November 18, 2025, to September 7, 2026.
“While lead can affect nearly every bodily system, its effects depend upon the amount and duration of lead exposure and age/ body weight. If a child is exposed to enough lead for a protracted period of time (e.g., weeks to months) permanent damage to the central nervous system may occur,” the recall said.
The products were sold in 90-gram plastic containers and bear the lot code GAP11304. To date, no illnesses have been linked to Lior Cinnamon Ground Seasoning. To be on the safe side, consumers or retailers who may have the recalled products are advised to throw them away or return them.
“Galil Importing Corp immediately initiated a voluntary recall and is notifying customers to stop distribution and sale of the affected product and place remaining inventory on hold,” the recall said.
