LUBBOCK, Texas (KCBD) – Autumn weather is firmly in place across the region Friday with widespread low clouds, occasional drizzle, and breezy north winds keeping temperatures well below normal for early October.

The cooler pattern is courtesy of a cold front that moved through Thursday evening, ushering in much colder air through the early morning hours Friday. Strong northerly winds that accompanied the front will continue to ease through the day.

High temperatures will struggle to reach the upper 50s and lower 60s Friday, running about 15 to 20 degrees below seasonal averages. Some areas on higher terrain may not even break 60 degrees during the afternoon hours.

Light rain showers remain possible Friday as an upper level low attempts to close off over Far West Texas, though any rainfall amounts will be minimal with only a few hundredths of an inch expected. No thunderstorms are anticipated due to the lack of atmospheric instability.

Low clouds will persist through most of Saturday as moisture continues to move southward ahead of improving conditions. The good news arrives Sunday and beyond. Sunnier and warmer weather will move in as high pressure builds across the region. Conditions will gradually warm into early next week while remaining generally drier than Friday’s activity.
