HENDERSON COUNTY, Texas (KLTV) – The Texas Parks and Wildlife Foundation (TPWF) announced the purchase of 650 acres of property on Lake Palestine for a new Texas state park.
According to a release from the foundation, the property is one of the largest contiguous tracts of land with frontage on the lake, and was acquired by the foundation Oct. 1. TPWF said the investment will cost more than $10 million.
“Opportunities to protect a property like this don’t come along very often, and when they do, timing is critical,” said Anne Brown, TPWF executive director. “TPWF was able to step in and secure this land now so it can ultimately become a place where generations of Texans can enjoy the outdoors. This is a great example of what public-private partnership can accomplish for conservation in Texas.”
The release said TPWF will hold the property until additional funding for Texas Parks and Wildlife is secured. The transfer of the property is projected in late 2027.
