Fort Worth ISD’s Meacham Middle School will be closed for the next several weeks after heavy rainfall caused flooding in the building, Superintendent Peter Licata said in a message to families Friday.

Meacham Middle, located in north Fort Worth, was closed Friday, Oct. 2. Starting Monday, Oct. 5, Meacham Middle teachers and faculty will report to Briscoe Elementary, located about eight miles south of Meacham. The Briscoe building is currently unoccupied after the district closed the campus at the end of the 2025-26 school year.

Meacham students will report to Briscoe’s campus starting Tuesday, Oct. 6. Licata said Meacham students will remain enrolled in their current courses and programs and receive the same support services and accommodations despite temporarily changing campuses.

“We recognize that a school serves as more than a building,” Licata wrote in a message to Meacham parents. “It is a community. Many of our students and families may feel anxious about this unexpected change, and we are committed to providing support throughout this transition.”

District staff will spend the next several days preparing classrooms, transportation, technology, food services, and student support systems so that teaching and learning can continue seamlessly on Tuesday morning, Licata wrote.

Meacham Middle School was already undergoing renovations prior to rainfall causing flooding, but a district spokesperson did not confirm whether those renovations played a part in causing the flooding.

District leaders hope students and staff can return to their regular building in a few weeks, Licata wrote in the message.

“While this news is understandably disappointing and disruptive, I want to assure you that we have acted quickly to ensure that learning continues with as little interruption as possible,” Licata wrote.
