H-E-B has purchased property in southwest Fort Worth with plans to build a new store serving the growing area.

The company announced it acquired more than 20 acres in the Edwards Ranch community at the northeast corner of Chisholm Trail Parkway and Oakmont Boulevard. Construction is set to begin early next year, with the store expected to open in late 2028.

Currently, the nearest operating H-E-B to this location sits about 13 miles away, though shoppers in the immediate area are currently served by a nearby Walmart Supercenter and an Albertsons.

The new store will be the closest location to downtown Fort Worth.

Part of Overland master-planned development

The new location will sit within Overland, a 250-acre master-planned community that is part of the historic Edwards Ranch. The ranch has been family-owned since 1848.

Cassco, the development branch of the Edwards family, has created local neighborhoods and mixed-use developments since 1956, including Clearfork, Riverhills, Overton Park, and Tanglewood.

“We are honored to partner with H-E-B, a beloved Texas institution whose deep connection to its customers and neighborhoods closely reflects our own values of thoughtful development and investment in the Fort Worth community,” said Cassco president Crawford Edwards.

“H-E-B has earned the trust and loyalty of generations of Texans, and we look forward to the meaningful role they will play in the Overland community for years to come.”

A closer option for Fort Worth shoppers

H-E-B officials noted that the store’s interior and exterior architecture will reflect the character of the surrounding community. Specific layout details remain under development and will be released as construction progresses.

“H-E-B is proud to partner with Cassco in developing our new location at Chisholm Trail Parkway and Oakmont,” said Stephen Butt, president of H-E-B Shareholder Relations. “For years, customers have asked us when a new H-E-B would come closer to downtown Fort Worth, and with our new store on Chisholm Parkway, we can now say that day is soon.”

The largest privately held employer in Texas, H-E-B operates 460 stores across Texas and Mexico with more than 175,000 employees and sales exceeding $50 billion, according to the company.
