With the passage of the first significant cold front of the fall, It’s been a very rainy past couple of days across South Texas. San Antonio recorded 2.12 inches of rain Thursday and followed that up with about a half-inch of rain on Friday. Together, it was the city’s third-rainiest start to October on record.
Heading into the weekend, the cold front is still expected to stall across parts of the area, which may result in continued rain chances for South-Central Texas. Granted, not everyone will see rain, and overall totals are likely to be very low, but you still may want to bring an umbrella along if you have outdoor plans, just in case.
Saturday: A few scattered showers are possible across the region early Saturday, with about a 20% to 30% chance of rain in San Antonio through 9 a.m. Otherwise, expect partly to mostly cloudy skies to start the day, with comfortable temperatures hovering in the low to mid-70s.
By the afternoon, a few scattered showers will remain possible, but still with just a 20% chance of rain in San Antonio. Temperatures will be slightly below average for early October, topping out between 81 and 83 degrees. Winds will be breezy throughout the day, with some gusts expected at 20 to 25 mph.
Many of these showers will result in only light to moderate rainfall. Because of this, the flood threat will stay relatively low.
Sunday: A few scattered showers will stay possible through Sunday morning, especially before 10 a.m. However, overall rain chances will be just 20%, leaving many areas dry. By Sunday afternoon, temperatures are likely to reach the lower 80s and winds will stay breezy, with some gusts potentially reaching 30 mph.
How much rain? New rainfall totals will be on the low side, likely less than a quarter-inch of rainfall between Saturday and Sunday. However, a few isolated areas – especially northwest of San Antonio – could see up to an inch of rain or more.
A much drier weather pattern is expected to arrive Monday and will continue for much of next week. Significantly drier air will move into the region from the north, ending rain chances and resulting in mostly sunny skies each day.
Daily peak temperatures will be near average for early October. On Monday, San Antonio will top out near 84 degrees, rising to around 86 to 87 degrees by Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday. Winds will be light, coming in at 5 to 10 mph each day.
With drier air in place, expect significantly cooler nights and mornings in the coming week. San Antonio lows are expected to fall into the mid- to upper 60s from Tuesday through Thursday, the coolest air in the area since late May.
Long-range weather models are pointing at the potential of rain moving back into the region by next weekend. However, there is still high levels of uncertainty with this next weather system, so be sure to stay with expressnews.com/weather for updates.
