Last-minute shoppers looking for rain boots in Austin likely won’t find anything suitable for the mud pit that is Austin City Limits Music Festival.
After a rainy start on Friday, festival organizers delayed opening Zilker Park on Saturday. Conditions at the grounds on the first day of the festival made for muddy moshing and regrettable footwear.
Numerous stores in the Sunset Valley area — two Targets, Academy Sports + Outdoors, Walmart, Nordstrom Rack and Old Navy — all were sold out of rain boots Saturday around noon. Remaining options included kid rain boots, non-waterproof tactical boots and Crocs.
An employee at Academy Sports + Outdoors pointed toward a lone rack of possible options. On the dolly were camo-style rain boots in large men’s sizes and kids shoes. At Walmart, lingering options included ankle-high Blundstones or taller non-waterproof boots.
