Dallas still needs reinforcement in the secondary after a wave of injuries in the first three weeks of the season. Safety P.J. Locke is on injured reserve after suffering a foot injury in a Week 2 win over the Washington Commanders, and safety Jalen Thompson was placed on IR earlier this week after a hamstring strain in a Week 3 loss to the Baltimore Ravens. Cornerback Cobie Durant will miss his second straight game after he sustained a hamstring strain in Week 2.
This is Steward’s second elevation in as many weeks, as he was called up before the Cowboys’ matchup with the Ravens in Brazil after Durant was ruled out. Thomas is being brought up for the first time this season.
The Cowboys also bolstered their secondary earlier this week by acquiring cornerback Joey Porter Jr. from the Pittsburgh Steelers. Dallas sent a second-round pick in 2028 and a sixth-round pick in 2027 to the Steelers for the Penn State product.
The Texans made a roster move of their own ahead of Sunday’s in-state clash, elevating former Cowboys linebacker Kenneth Murray from their practice squad. A former first-round pick, he had one sack and one fumble recovery in 17 games (16 starts) for Dallas last season.
