Arrest made in 32-year-old Dallas cold case

  • October 4, 2026

DALLAS (KWTX) — A 56-year-old man was arrested and charged with capital murder in connection with the 1993 killing of Tommie Davis, Dallas police announced Saturday.

On May 18, 1993, Davis, 55, was found dead inside her home in the 1500 block of Haskell Avenue. Dallas police said she had been beaten and slashed with a knife.

At the time, the only investigative leads were minor damage to the home’s front door and several missing items, according to the statement. The case was eventually archived as a cold case.

Thirty-two years later, a Dallas Police detective reopened the investigation and submitted several pieces of evidence for forensic testing, the statement reads.

According to the statement, Police said blood found on a wall inside the residence did not belong to Davis. Investigators entered a DNA profile developed from that blood into the Combined DNA Index System, or CODIS, and received a match to Tommy Lynn Jones.

Detectives later determined Tommy Lynn Jones was an alias used by Gary Len Ross, police said. Investigators cited Ross’s connection to Davis and the manner of her death in obtaining an arrest warrant.

Ross was located and arrested on Oct. 2. He is being held at the Lew Sterrett Justice Center on a charge of capital murder.

“We hope this arrest brings a measure of closure to Ms. Davis’s family and serves as a reminder that justice will always be pursued,” the statement reads.

The case remains under investigation. It is documented under case number 19930383386.

Anyone with information is asked to contact Detective Isom at 214-671-3701 or andrea.isom@dallaspolice.gov.
