COLLEGE STATION — Three different Texas A&M players scored rushing touchdowns as the Aggies utilized a strong ground game for an impressive 34-7 win over Arkansas.
Quarterback Marcel Reed and running backs Carsyn Baker and KJ Edwards all found the end zone for Texas A&M, which snapped a three-game skid in conference play dating back to last year’s Texas game.
The Aggies committed to their running attack in a way they haven’t in any prior game this season. Texas A&M ran the ball on about 52% of its plays during the month of September. That number shot up to about 72% against the Razorbacks.
The emphasis on the run game worked. Arkansas entered the game allowing just 124.75 yards rushing. The Aggies ran for 133 yards in the first half alone as they entered intermission up 24-7. They finished with 231 yards on the ground.
Baker, Edwards, Reed and Rueben Owens II all carried the ball at least nine times.
Edwards had the best game of his freshman campaign with 11 carries for 66 yards and two touchdowns.
But it wasn’t just the offense that played well. All three phases had highlights that contributed to the win.
The Arkansas offense managed just 214 total yards while kicker David Olano had two field goals of 50 yards and 57 yards. The 57-yarder was a career-high and the longest Texas A&M field goal since 1999.
The official attendance for the game was 108,657, the fifth-largest crowd in Kyle Field history.
This is a developing story and will be updated.
