A GoFundMe has been organized to help cover funeral expenses for the 5-year-old boy whose father confessed to stabbing him and his 2-year-old brother at their Arlington apartment late Wednesday.

Keiler Cruz-Guerra died at Medical City Arlington Hospital about 12:40 a.m. Thursday. His little brother is still fighting for his life at a local hospital, according to the fundraiser.

The children’s father, Heyco Cruz Linares, is currently being held in the Tarrant County Jail. His bond has not been set, and it’s not clear if he’s obtained an attorney to represent him. The 27-year-old faces a charge of capital murder of a person under 10 years old, evading arrest with a vehicle and terroristic threat against a peace officer, according to court records.

Police said that the suspect pulled up next to an Arlington police officer who was parked at a gas station in the 1400 block of North Cooper Street about 11:50 p.m. Wednesday. He then got out of his vehicle and hit the officer’s window with a knife, officials said.

The officer moved a safe distance away and ordered Cruz Linares to drop the knife. The suspect ignored the commands, according to police, and instead got back in his car and drove toward Interstate 30. Arlington police pursued Cruz Linares on I-30 and finally stopped him near NW 7th Street with help from the Grand Prairie Police Department.

As he was being taken into custody, Cruz Linares told officers that he had just killed his kids at their apartment in the 1600 block of South Cooper Street, police said. The motive for the attacks remains under investigation.

The fundraiser for Keiler had raised over $4,100 toward an $8,000 goal by Saturday night.
