People left Friday’s Turnstile set at Austin City Limits Music Festival caked in mud.

That may sound like a bad thing, but they were moshing, dancing and throwing the thick brown sludge around like confetti while singer Brendan Yates screamed some of the band’s biggest hits into his microphone.

At least two mud-slinging pits of death formed, a modern reimagining of the muck fest that was Woodstock 1994 — aka “Mudstock.”

Despite the splashes and sinking in the obliterated soil, concertgoers stomped around the pools with animalistic grins and fierce defiance of the rain that failed to hamper ACL Fest’s triumphant kickoff.
