The Mayor’s Committee on Persons with Disabilities officially met for the first time Sept. 10 following four meetings that were canceled in 2026 for lack of quorum.
The Fort Worth Human Relations Commission, the advisory board for the Mayor’s Committee on Persons with Disabilities, welcomed three new members to fill vacancies: Saint Rothwell in Place 3, Lance Smith in Place 6 and Chrystia Johnson in Place 11.
The committee approved the July 9 meeting minutes and agenda.
Shelly Young, an 18-plus year veteran with the national Alzheimer’s Association, presented a digital slideshow and covered subjects ranging from early detection, demographic risk, modern medicine updates and care giving for Alzheimer’s patients.
Erin Eurek, a representative of Kimley-Horn, spoke to Fort Worth’s commitment to accessibility upgrades.
Improvements to parks and trails will create equal access to additional community members who faced challenges in the past and allow them to attend and enjoy these spaces, too, she said. Sidewalk improvements will make for better access to bus lines and will enable more people to use public transportation.
The next meeting is Oct. 8 at 10 a.m.
