Occupation and workplace: Managing Partner of Harris Cook LLP; President and Escrow Officer of Yellowstone Title
Previous elected office(s) sought or held: Mayor of Mansfield (2008-2021); Texas House District 96 (2021-Present)
How long have you lived in Texas and in your district?
I am a lifelong Texan. I was born and raised in Mansfield, where my family and I have longstanding roots in Senate District 22.
What are your qualifications to serve in this office?
My service as Mansfield Mayor and three terms in the Texas House have prepared me to be effective on Day One, as State Senator for Senate District 22. As a board-certified family-law attorney, I bring decades of expertise as a mediator, with the ability to build relationships, gain consensus, and deliver results.
What are your top three priorities, if elected? Briefly describe how you would approach each.
My top priorities are delivering lasting property tax relief and cutting wasteful spending; keeping communities safe by enforcing the rule of law and securing the Southern border; and making our state an affordable place for Texans to live, work, and raise a family.
What is the single biggest issue your constituents face? How would you address it?
The proliferation of data centers in rural areas is the biggest challenge facing Senate District 22. In February I committed to filing legislation next Session that will require data centers to address their energy and water demands, provide for meaningful public input, and transparent permitting that protects local property owners and communities.
Why are you seeking this office?
As a father and grandfather, I am deeply concerned about the future we leave for the next generation. Guided by my faith and commitment to servant leadership, I am seeking this office to keep our communities safe and prosperous so all Texas families can thrive.
Who are your top five campaign donors?
Texans for Lawsuit Reform PAC
Texas REALTORS PAC
Ms. Kathleen Long
A&M PAC
Texas Farm Bureau AGFUND
Have you ever filed for bankruptcy? If so, when?
No, I have never filed for bankruptcy.
Have you ever been convicted of a crime, in Texas or another state? If so, what crime and when?
No, I have never been convicted of a crime.
What is your stance on property tax relief?
For too long, promised tax relief has been gobbled up by higher appraisals and wasteful government spending. I will fight for lasting property tax relief that actually puts money back in our pockets. I’ve done it before and I will do it again. I co-authored and passed the largest property tax cut in Texas history.
What are your priorities for public education?
I will continue to support the state’s investment in funding for increased teacher pay, special education, school safety, and core classroom needs while giving teachers authority to maintain discipline and parents the power to choose the best education for their children.
What is your stance on banning or regulating THC products?
I support prohibiting consumable hemp products with intoxicating levels of THC, especially products sold or marketed to minors.
What is your stance on legalizing casino gambling in Texas?
I do not support the legalization of casino gambling in Texas.
What would your approach be to regulating Texas’ growing data center landscape?
I will pursue a statewide framework that gives affected communities meaningful input and requires disclosure of data center energy and water demands. Data centers should transparently report resource use, bring their own power, conserve water through closed-loop systems and other technologies, and not shift utility costs onto local ratepayers.
What is your stance on border security, and how do you believe it should be addressed?
I will continue to support legislation and funding to secure the Texas border, support law enforcement, and uphold the rule of law.
Do you support passenger rail projects, such as high-speed rail in Texas? Why or why not?
While I support high-performing passenger rail projects like the Heartland Flyer, I do not support high-speed rail in Texas due to its negative impact to our farming and ranching families through eminent domain.
What would you do to support affordable housing in Texas?
I support policies that will fast track homebuilding such as cutting red tape and accelerating permit and inspection approvals. I will remain committed to delivering additional property tax relief to ensure that owning a home remains an attainable goal for all Texas families.
How would you address rising health care costs?
I will fight to lower healthcare costs through price transparency, competition, and patient choice. I have supported legislation related to itemized medical bills, lower-cost prescription drugs, and investments in mental health capacity.
How would you approach working with colleagues of the opposite party to foster bipartisan collaboration?
I will continue to work across the aisle to the benefit of my constituents without compromising my core principles.
