The vibes are high as the Cowboys return from Houston, and not just on the field.

After Dallas’ 34-30 come-from-behind win over the Texans on Sunday, head coach Brian Schottenheimer announced in his post-game news conference that linebacker Shemar James was already gone — on his way back to Dallas before most of the team had even taken their pads off.

The reason? James’ wife had gone into labor.

Schottenheimer told reporters that James had caught a ride home on the Jones family plane to expedite his trip straight back to Dallas.

“There’s no one more excited in that locker room right now than George Pickens,” Schottenheimer said to reporters, answering a question about the wide receiver before reminding himself: “Well, maybe. Shemar James’ wife is in labor, and he’ll be flying home with the Joneses. And that’s pretty cool. So, praying for an easy delivery, and God is good.”

Schottenheimer’s news in the conference also made the Cowboys’ postgame locker room scene a little clearer, and a lot funnier: James, clad only in a towel, is the one who breaks the team down to close out the meeting, and offers a quick “Cowboys on me, Cowboys on three” before scurrying off to the showers.

Now it makes sense why he was in such a hurry.
