KENNEDALE, Texas — The Kennedale High School community is mourning the death of 16-year-old Brendon Burfield, who died Saturday, Sept. 26 in a motorcycle crash, according to the school’s principal on a Facebook post.

Burfield was a junior at Kennedale High School and, according to a Facebook post from Principal Michael Cagle was a “valued member of our Wildcat family.”

Cagle shared a photo of Burfield and wrote about the kind of student and person he was.

“This photo shows a brilliant young man,” the principal wrote. “This photo shows a brave and fierce young man.”

In the post, Cagle says “Brendon was happy here, and he was loved by his classmates and teachers.” The principal says he met with Shannon Burfield, Brendon’s dad, and he said “Brendon’s father described him the best way I know how, “the most chill person you’d ever meet.”  His father and I agreed, he was one of the happiest kids we ever knew”

Before attending Kennedale ISD, Burfield was a student in Venus ISD.

One of his former teachers told WFAA that Burfield was more than a student she taught. She said he became a part of her family.

Cagle wrote, Burfield’s friends, classmates and teachers are mourning his loss and remembering the impact he had on those around him.

The KHS principal says they will have a special place for Brendon during the Class of 2028 graduation ceremony in May of that year. “[Brendon] will forever be a Wildcat and forever a member of the Class of 2028.  Kennedale High School will have a place for him in the Class of 2028 graduation ceremony in May 2028.”

A community gathering is planned for Sunday evening at the Venus High School football field to honor Burfield and remember his life.

The family shared a Dropbox link with the school to allow friends, classmates, and teachers to upload photos, videos, and stories of Brendon. They also shared a fundraiser link to assist the family with Brendon’s final medical bills and memorial services.
