LUBBOCK, Texas (KCBD) – The Lubbock Cultural Arts Foundation is inviting Lubbock-based artists to submit original design concepts for a Public Piano Project celebrating the people, music, landscapes and cultural spirit of Lubbock and the South Plains.
Selected artists will transform an upright piano into a playable public artwork. Once completed, the pianos will be installed at participating host locations for the public to play, photograph and experience.
Artists of all backgrounds, disciplines and experience levels are encouraged to apply. Artists may work in painting, illustration, mural-style design, graphic approaches, mixed-media-inspired painted imagery, or other suitable visual styles, provided the finished piano remains durable, safe and fully playable.
There are four pianos, and each piano has a prompt. Artists must choose one prompt. A $500 stipend will be awarded to each artist selected.
Applications are due Oct. 19. Guidelines and the application are available at the link below.
