Update on Monday at 10:23 a.m.: The Cibolo Police Department confirmed to MySA around 10:20 a.m. that a stretch of I-10 West will be shut down for several more hours. Towing service crews are on-site to clean up the debris and remove the vehicle that caught fire.

A vehicle fire is causing delays on a San Antonio-area interstate on Monday, October 5. According to the traffic monitoring site SigAlert, the incident has shut down I-10 West between Zuehl Road at Exit 595 and FM-2538 at Trainer Hale Road at Exit 593. The Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) reported the situation to SigAlert at around 9:08 a.m.

Folks are forced to exit to the frontage road. TxDOT cameras show vehicles stacked up near the hazard site, which the agency’s website lists as originating at FM 465 Linne Road East and I-10 west at Santa Clara Road.

Cibolo police say towing services clean up the debris and remove the vehicle. All drivers are being redirected to the access roads during this time. Preliminary investigations revealed that a blown rear tire caused the fire.

Drivers are backed up to FM-465 at Exit 599, per SigAlert. There is about a 30-minute delay in the area, according to the traffic site. Currently, it’s unclear as to when the lanes will reopen or if anyone was injured. MySA reached out to emergency medical responders for more information.

This is a developing story and will be updated with new information as it becomes available.
