GRAYSON COUNTY, Texas (KXII) – Kyle Holtz is the new airport manager at North Texas Regional Airport.
Holtz met with county leaders at commissioners court Monday.
“I was walking around all the areas and stuff like that, meeting people in the area. And it’s just really homey,” Holtz said.
“I like to think of the county as a whole as a team and it’s a team effort. We’re one big family under the county umbrella. He’s going to be a great asset to that team,” said Bruce Dawsey, Grayson County judge.
One of Holtz’s main priorities is community engagement.
“What do they want to see North Texas Regional Airport could become, whether it’s commercial service in 10, 15 years, which takes a lot of effort, but it takes community support to get to that stage, or whether we grow with the subcontractors,” Holtz said.
The airport was built by the Air Force in the 1950s as Perrin Air Force Base.
“Some of the things that were put in place years ago that maybe weren’t done within standards. He’s already pointed some of those things out that needs to be corrected,” Dawsey said.
Dawsey said the airport has infrastructure needs that date back to its construction by the Air Force in the 1950s.
“There’s infrastructure needs that need to be addressed and he can recognize those,” Dawsey said. “We’re really looking forward to what his knowledge and experience brings to us.”
“I’m passionate about aviation. My wife and I wanted to come here. We want to be here in Grayson County. We’re here for the long run and hopefully retire in 30 years,” Holtz said.
Dawsey said Holtz and his wife previously lived in Concord, North Carolina, before taking the Grayson County position.
“His enthusiasm for wanting to get back to Texas and stay here for the long term. He’s not just one of these guys that is looking to come here as a stepping ladder or a step in the ladder to success. He wants to be here long term,” Dawsey said.
Dawsey said he is hoping for stability at the airport going forward.
“Someone that’s forward thinking that can look at it and see the potential that’s there to be able to work with other businesses to bring in opportunities for growth in the county at the airport and just knowing what needs to be done on a daily basis out there,” Dawsey said.
