A defendant who shot a man to death with an AR-15-style pistol inside a south Arlington house in 2024 and then posted on the internet a photo of himself with a gun owned by the victim has pleaded guilty to murder.

Marshall McLemore was sentenced on Friday in a state district court to 15 years in prison in the killing of Alexander Rivas, according to a Tarrant County District Clerk’s Office record.

In the 485th District Court, and under an agreement with the Tarrant County Criminal District Attorney’s Office, McLemore pleaded guilty to the top offense on which he had been indicted.

McLemore shot Rivas, 28, to death in October 2024 in the 300 block of Kingfisher Lane.

A 99%-burned Nissan Quest that Rivas had rented was found in Dallas about 10 days after the killing, according to a detective’s search warrant affidavit. McLemore burned the minivan, the district attorney’s office alleged.

McLemore, 22, will become eligible for parole when he has served 7 1/2 years.

Had McLemore been found guilty of murder at trial, a jury or judge would have assessed his punishment at between five and 99 years, or life, in prison.

McLemore became a person of interest after an Arlington Police Department crime scene officer recovered the defendant’s fingerprint from inside Rivas’ Kingfisher Lane house. In the days after Rivas’ body was found, multiple people came forward with information implicating McLemore, police have said.

Detectives obtained cellphone records that placed McLemore at Rivas’ house within the timeframe of the murder and showed he had been communicating with Rivas just before his death, police have said. Detectives believe drug activity was involved.

Members of the U.S. Marshals Gulf Coast Violent Offenders Fugitive Task Force and Corpus Christi Police Department found McLemore in the Corpus Christi area on Nov. 14, 2024, and took him into custody on a murder arrest warrant.

On Oct. 21, 2024, patrol officers were flagged down by a man who told them he had gone to the Kingfisher Lane house to check on a family friend who lived there, entered and found a body inside.
