AUSTIN, Texas — Austin-area drivers are paying more to fill up this fall, with gas prices well above where they were a year ago.

The average price for a gallon of regular unleaded in the Austin-San Marcos area is $3.86, according to AAA. That’s up about $1.16 from this time last year. The statewide average is $3.90.

AAA Texas reported that the state recorded its most expensive September ever for gasoline.
