Beauty, wellness and community are coming together for a brand-new event in Austin.
For the first time ever, Camila Alves McConaughey and Women of Today are hosting the Women of Today Beauty Summit, bringing experts and attendees together for a full day focused on everything from skin, hair and makeup to nutrition, self-compassion and the way we see ourselves.
Camila Alves McConaughey joined Sierra Waggoner and Trevor Scott on We Are Austin to share what inspired the inaugural summit, what attendees can expect and why building a strong community continues to be at the heart of Women of Today.

From wellness to beauty
Women of Today already hosts an annual wellness summit, but McConaughey said conversations with the community revealed another topic people wanted to explore.
“Beauty kept coming up,” McConaughey said.
That inspired the team to create its first event dedicated to the subject, but the summit is taking a much broader approach than simply talking about products or trends.
“We’re looking at beauty as a 360,” she said.

She has also watched relationships formed through Women of Today events continue long after the events themselves.
McConaughey explained that beauty can be impacted by everything from changes in your hair and skin to nutrition and the relationship you have with yourself. The summit’s first half will focus on beauty from the inside out, with experts discussing self-compassion, nutrition, skin health, hair and more.
McConaughey will also share lessons from her own experiences.
Experts, activities and plenty of beauty tips
After a special outdoor lunch, attendees will have the opportunity to take part in activations and get more personalized advice.
Hair and makeup help desks will give guests a chance to sit down with experts and ask about the beauty challenges they experience in their own lives, whether that means struggling to find the right makeup shade or having questions about their hair.

“It’s been a community that has grown organically and is all about learning how to do better for yourself so you can do more,” she said.
The afternoon will bring what McConaughey playfully calls the “funsies,” with conversations about hairstyling and makeup. Austin makeup artist Laura Anderson, who has worked with McConaughey for years, will be among the experts sharing advice.
The summit will also dive into popular beauty treatments and technology, including Botox, red light therapy and lasers, along with a few surprise guests McConaughey is keeping under wraps.
And guests can expect a gift bag McConaughey says she has been personally making sure is packed for everyone attending.
Building a community that lasts beyond the event
While beauty may bring everyone together for the day, McConaughey said the bigger mission behind Women of Today is creating a community where people can learn from and support one another.
“It’s been a community that has grown organically and is all about learning how to do better for yourself so you can do more,” she said.
She described the Women of Today community as diverse and multigenerational, with people from many different walks of life coming together around a shared goal.
“Everybody’s there with a common mission of doing better,” McConaughey said.

“Some of the women that have been coming to our events, they’re now friends for life,” she said.
Beauty with a bigger purpose
Giving back is also built into Women of Today events, and the inaugural Beauty Summit will benefit the Central Texas Food Bank.
McConaughey said the event is expected to provide a minimum of 30,000 meals, with hopes that number will grow even higher.
“If you’re doing something that you know is better for you, you should find ways to better the community around you,” she said.
McConaughey will also be joined by Kay McConaughey, who at 94 years old will take part in a special conversation during the summit.
Between the expert advice, hands-on experiences, community connections and local giveback, McConaughey hopes the first Women of Today Beauty Summit will be the beginning of something Austin can look forward to for years to come.
