Less than a week ago, Neiman Marcus shuttered its original location in Downtown Dallas-a landmark in the city for more than a century. But part of the store’s history will live on at another North Texas location.
On Sept. 30, Neiman Marcus officially closed its flagship store at 1618 Main St. in Dallas. Founded in Dallas in 1907, the company has operated from the Main Street location since 1914, after a fire destroyed its original building. Now, Saks Global, Neiman Marcus’ parent company, is shifting its focus to its NorthPark Center store, currently under renovation at 8687 North Central Expressway.
New details reveal how Neiman Marcus plans to preserve and reimagine parts of its downtown store’s history as part of the incoming upgrades.

What will live on at NorthPark?
The renovations will “build on Neiman Marcus’s rich heritage while creating new opportunities to deliver exceptional experiences for its customers,” a company spokesperson wrote in a news release.
As part of the renovations at NorthPark, four distinct elements of the downtown store will be highlighted and preserved: the Zodiac Room, the Bridal Salon, historic art and a Christmas favorite-Santa.
The Zodiac Room-set to open in the former NM CafĂ© space at NorthPark on Nov. 20-will feature key elements from the Downtown Zodiac Room: turquoise walls, plush banquets and “one-of-a-kind art.” The menu will be filled with customer favorites like chicken broth, popovers with strawberry butter, Stanley Marcus pot roast, mandarin orange soufflĂ©, alongside new items.

“The restaurant will offer a holiday feast November 20 – January 2 to allow customers to continue their cherished seasonal traditions with the retailer,” according to the release. “Customers can begin making reservations through Open Table.”
The Bridal Salon will be relocated to the lower level of the NorthPark store, expected to open in early December.
“The company will continue to service existing brides with their alterations and fittings at the NorthPark store while the new space is under construction,” according to the release. “Customers can now make new bridal salon appointments via their sales associate or by calling the store.”

A holiday favorite will also return at the renovated location: downtown’s beloved Santa, Felix Estridge, will be back for photos. NorthPark’s Santa events, including Dine with Santa, Breakfast with Santa and Storytime with Santa, begin after Thanksgiving.
Historic art from the downtown location will also be immersed throughout the NorthPark location, “allowing customers across the country to experience an important part of our history,” the company wrote.

“The spirit of innovation, exceptional service and deep customer relationships that defined our Downtown store will continue to guide us as we honor our rich heritage and embrace our bright future,” the company wrote. “Dallas remains an incredibly important market for the Neiman Marcus brand.”
Neiman Marcus said the flagship location helped shape the iconic luxury retailer into the company it is today.
“We are excited to enhance our NorthPark store by infusing new elements that celebrate our storied history, continuing to evolve the experience where our customers prefer to shop,” the company wrote.
