Fans of Trader Joe’s in Frisco just got some good news.

On Tuesday, the City Council, after tabling the item in August, voted to rezone a slice of property on the western side of Frisco to accommodate the grocer. The decision, which passed unanimously, also enables a senior living center to be part of the property.

“When are we getting a Trader Joe’s? That has been a resounding question that I know I have heard since I’ve been on council for the past five years,” said Angelia Pelham, deputy mayor pro tem, Place 3, during the meeting. “And to be able to now answer that question is something that I’m really excited about.”

The property is at Majestic Gardens Drive and Main Street on the western side of Frisco.

While brands such as Aldi, H-E-B and Kroger expand their reach in North Texas, Trader Joe’s is investing in the region as it benefits from business and population growth locally. It’s eyeing new stores in cities such as Fort Worth, Plano and Wylie.

The chain is drawing fans in Texas and beyond with its smaller-sized shops that offer meat, produce and dairy along with items such like sweet popcorn with a touch of spice, Asian-inspired frozen foods and a wide variety of drinks.

The planned Frisco Trader Joe’s has long been anticipated by locals who must now drive to cities such as McKinney and Plano to shop at the popular grocery chain.

“I cannot wait to have the Trader Joe’s open up,” Laura Rummel, mayor pro tem, Place 5, said during the proceedings.
