HOUSTON – Hundreds of people came out to Midtown’s Bagby Park to celebrate National Night Out.
There was food, music, raffle ticket drawings and even a hula hooping contest for children.
The event drew in elected officials and law enforcement agencies from Houston Police Department, Harris County Constable Precinct 7, SWAT, Metro Police and more.
“I think what makes our National Night Out so special is how we engage with our local businesses, our community partners and our law enforcement,” said Madison Walkes, the Director of People and Engagement at Midtown Houston.
Leaders who made remarks include State Representative Jolanda Jones, Houston Police Chief Noe Diaz and Precinct 7 Constable Smokie Phillips.
“We all work together to service Midtown,” said Sharita Bohanna, the Manager of Public Safety and Quality of Life at Midtown Houston.
Midtown Houston also has a homeless outreach team as well as a mental health team.
This was Midtown’s 22nd National Night Out.
The event was the last for Jaime Giraldo, the director of Public Safety at Midtown Houston, who announced he is retiring at the end of the year.
