AUSTIN, Texas — A man died Tuesday night after he was found injured in the parking lot of a South Austin apartment complex. Police said no one had been detained as of early Wednesday.
Officers were called about 8 p.m. Tuesday to the La Madrid Apartments, 11320 Menchaca Road, for a report of a shooting or stabbing, said Officer Austin Zarling with the Austin Police Department.
Officers found a man with “apparent trauma to his body” and tried to save his life before Austin-Travis County EMS medics and Austin firefighters took over, Zarling said. The man was taken to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead shortly before 9 p.m.
Police said the man and the suspect knew each other and that detectives are treating the homicide as an isolated incident.

Asked whether investigators had identified the suspect, Zarling said homicide detectives “are working diligently to make sure that we do know who it is.”
The incident took place in the complex’s parking lot, Zarling said. Parts of the parking lot remained closed early Wednesday and were expected to stay that way for at least a couple more hours.
The death is being investigated as Austin’s 46th homicide of 2026.
