San Antonio drivers should prepare for traffic headaches and intermittent road closures Wednesday as President Donald Trump heads to the East Side for a campaign rally at Freeman Coliseum.

Trump is scheduled to speak at the coliseum around 6 p.m., with doors opening at 2:30 p.m. The rally is expected to draw large crowds as he campaigns for Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton, who is running for U.S. Senate, and congressional candidate Carlos De La Cruz.

As Trump’s motorcade moves through San Antonio, the Secret Service and local law enforcement agencies are expected to impose road closures and traffic restrictions. However, according to a statement from the San Antonio Police Department, authorities have not released specific streets that will be closed ahead of time “for security reasons.”

The San Antonio Police Department said any road closures would be temporary, but warned drivers to expect delays before and after Trump’s arrival. The Bexar County Sheriff’s Office also urged commuters to steer clear of the area, telling the Express-News: “Commuters are strongly advised to avoid the area due to heavy congestion associated with large events. Delays should be expected.”

People attending the rally by rideshare will be directed to pickup and drop-off areas on the east side of the Frost Bank Center parking lots, between Lots 3 and 4, BCSO stated. For San Antonians not attending the event, officials recommend allowing extra travel time or avoiding the area altogether.
