HOUSTON, Texas (KTRK) — Houston police said a man charged with murder called authorities and admitted to shooting a woman in the city’s west side on Monday.
On Wednesday, the Houston Police Department shared an update on a shooting that happened on Briar Forest Drive.
HPD said officers were called out at 2:55 p.m. to a woman being shot at 13101 Briar Forest Drive. When police arrived, they reported finding the victim in a bedroom with a gunshot wound. The woman was pronounced dead at the scene, police said.
As the investigation continued, HPD identified the suspect as 43-year-old Frederick Damone Emmitt. Police said Emmitt called in the shooting and admitted to it on the phone. Court documents state Emmitt told law enforcement it was an accident and that he “did not know what happened.”
He returned to the scene and was detained without incident.
Additional details on what led to the shooting were not immediately released.
