President Donald Trump visited Texas for the second time in a week, urging voters to support Republicans in the midterms as a competitive Senate race and low approval ratings pose challenges.
President Donald Trump returned to Texas for the second time in less than a week, rallying voters to support Republicans in the upcoming midterm elections on Nov. 3.
The Senate race in Texas is highly competitive, with Republican and former Attorney General Ken Paxton facing off against Democrat James Talarico. A win for Talarico could have a major impact on the policies the Trump administration is trying to carry out.
“It’s basically one vote. It’s so important. Forget about ‘for Texas,’ it’s still just one vote. It’s a killer in Congress because we have a very close majority. We can’t let that happen,” Trump said.
The president is on the road for a 32-day campaign blitz, but his efforts come amid challenges, including the Iran war in its seventh month, rising gas prices, and a rocky approval rating.
A recent NBC News poll found that 39% of Americans approve of the job Trump is doing, while 59% disapprove. The same poll showed that 52% of Americans prefer a Congress controlled by Democrats, while 43% want Republicans to hold the balance of power.
Trump is scheduled to continue campaigning this weekend, with multiple reports indicating he will host another rally in Clarksville, Tennessee, on Saturday.
