A newcomer to Austin’s dining scene is shutting its doors after less than one year in business. After a 10-month run in The Plaza at Avery Ranch, Blue Agave Tex-Mex is permanently closed. The restaurant shared the news on social media Wednesday, saying that despite its best efforts, it made the “difficult decision” to stop operations.
“We genuinely valued every person who walked through the door, whether you were a first time guest, a repeat guest, or (our favorite) one of our many regulars,” Blue Agave’s post read.
“Your kind words, feedback, and support created such an amazing place for us to call home. We may not have been open long but we were truly welcomed into this community and are grateful to have had that.”
Blue Agave said it plans to donate the restaurant’s remaining food to a food shelter, asking for recommendations for any local organizations in the area. The post didn’t detail specific reasons behind the closure, but noted that it has “navigated murky waters for the past month.” Owner Tasha Miller concluded the statement with a plea for more support for local small businesses.
“We are all in jeopardy right now. We are all navigating increased expenses that make it difficult to operate, especially restaurants that already operate on some of the smallest profit margins of any business. Shutting down is an unfortunate truth that is happening to so many small and local businesses right now.”
Chron has reached out to Blue Agave’s team for more details. We will update this story if and when we hear back.
