September was a whirlwind month for San Antonio TV stations, including waves of layoffs, new time slots and new talent coming to local screens. October marks another addition to the city’s TV lineup, as two sister stations welcome a new reporter from across state lines.
Alexis Govea, most recently a reporter at FOX26 KMPH in Fresno, California, is headed to the Alamo City. In an October 2 Instagram post, she said, “San Antonio, I’ll see ya soon.” FOX26 is a Sinclair-owned sister station to News 4 San Antonio and Fox SA.
“I got the call, had about 24 hours to think it over, talked to my parents, bosses, prayed about it…and ultimately, I said YES,” Govea wrote, adding her thanks to her coworkers. “I’ll be transferring to FOX26’s sister station in San Antonio for this next chapter where I’ll be reporting for two TV stations.”
Govea is a native of Visalia, a city just south of Fresno. On social media, she describes herself as “God first” as well as a “sports chick, radio host and TV news reporter.” She graduated from Fresno State University with a bachelor’s degree in Media, Communications and Journalism. Before her stint at FOX26, she wore a few hats at iHeartMedia Radio in Fresno and hosted Q97.1 Radio, among other roles, according to LinkedIn. Her last day at FOX26 was September 25, marking the end of a four-year chapter at the station.
“I can’t wait to explore the Lone Star State,” she told MySA in a direct message. “I’m looking forward to continuing to learn and grow as a journalist while starting this new chapter in San Antonio as a morning general assignment reporter for News 4 San Antonio & FOX SA. I’ve heard there’s so much culture, history, and character, and I’m excited to experience it myself.
She added, “I’m especially looking forward to meeting the community and getting to know the people and places that make San Antonio such a special city. As a proud California girl, I’m ready to embrace everything Texas has to offer: the culture, the hospitality, the food, and, of course, that big Texas spirit. I’m grateful for the opportunity to embark on this next adventurous chapter.”
Govea will start at the stations next week, though she won’t appear on-air immediately, she said.
