5. ATX Theatre Halloween Costume & Thrift Sale
Missing Austin’s beloved Lucy in Disguise costume shop? Here’s a little old Austin magic.
The annual ATX Theatre Halloween Costume & Thrift Sale returns Saturday and Sunday, offering shoppers a chance to find unique costumes, vintage clothing and one-of-a-kind pieces from local theater productions.
The sale features custom costumes previously used on stage, everyday and vintage clothing, handmade hats, hundreds of historical sewing patterns and materials ready for their next creative project.
Organizers describe the event as a funky pop-up thrift store inspired by the spirit of Lucy in Disguise, the iconic South Congress costume shop that closed in 2022.
The event also has a sustainability mission: giving costumes and wardrobe pieces an afterlife rather than letting them go to waste.
The sale began four years ago in a costume designer’s driveway and has grown into a community event bringing together local theater companies, designers and vintage enthusiasts.
