Friday will begin with clear skies, morning temperatures near 70 degrees and light northeast winds of 3 to 8 mph. The day will quickly warm up through the afternoon, with temps reaching 90 degrees as winds turn more easterly at 5 to 10 mph. Mainly dry weather will persist through the weekend as a ridge of high atmospheric pressure settles in for a couple of days.

Meanwhile, Hurricane Isaias will be approaching Alabama and Florida from the Gulf of Mexico on Friday before moving inland into the deep South.

This weekend in Austin, though, we can expect warm afternoons in the 80s to low 90s and mild mornings in the upper 60s to low 70s — about 5 to 7 degrees warmer than our early-October normal range of daily temperatures.

“After another full round of persistent weather Saturday, the pattern upstream of Texas begins to push a weather change over our local area,” meteorologists at the National Weather Service wrote in their forecast discussion on Thursday.

Light winds and dry air will make for another pleasant evening Saturday, but by Sunday morning, southeasterly winds will return off the Gulf, bringing an increase in moisture-related dew point temperatures and humidity into early next week.

Small rain chances return early next week, although most of the area will remain dry Monday. There’s only a 10% chance of rain showers on Monday, increasing to 20% on Tuesday. By late next week, we’ll be watching for coastal showers, a cold front and moisture from the Pacific, all of which could bring Central Texas a better chance of rain.

If you’re planning to make the trek north along Interstate 35 this weekend, pack your patience for the traffic. Luckily, the weather won’t be an issue.
The Texas Longhorns will face the Oklahoma Sooners on Saturday at 2:30 p.m. in Dallas.

Saturday morning in Dallas will start in the mid-60s under mostly clear skies. Temperatures will quickly warm by noon, just in time for tailgating, with readings in the low 80s under mostly sunny skies and light easterly winds.

By kickoff, temperatures will reach 87 degrees, with east to southeast winds continuing. Once the game wraps up — with Texas possibly celebrating a victory? — temperatures will retreat to around 83 degrees by 7 p.m.
