As part of its Loop 1604 North Expansion Project, the Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) is announcing another weekend closure on the Northside, starting Friday evening.
The closure will begin Friday, Oct. 9, at 9 p.m. and end Monday, Oct. 12, at 5 a.m. The eastbound Loop 1604 mainlanes between the exit ramp to Stone Oak Parkway and the entrance ramp after Stone Oak Parkway will be closed all weekend. The eastbound Loop 1604 to northbound and southbound U.S. 281 flyover ramps will also be closed.
That means that if you are driving along the eastbound mainlanes on Loop 1604, you will need to take a detour off the highway via the Stone Oak Parkway exit ramp and follow the EB Loop 1604 frontage road. You can then get back on the eastbound Loop 1604 mainlanes by using the entrance ramp after Stone Oak Parkway.
Drivers on eastbound Loop 1604 heading to NB U.S. 281 should take the Stone Oak Parkway exit ramp and follow the eastbound Loop 1604 frontage road under the Loop 1604 and U.S. 281 interchange. They will turn left onto the northbound U.S. 281 frontage road and may enter the northbound U.S. 281 mainlanes via the first available entrance ramp.
If you are driving eastbound on Loop 1604 and want to connect to southbound U.S. 281, take the Stone Oak Parkway exit ramp and follow the eastbound Loop 1604 frontage road to the Loop 1604 and U.S. 281 interchange.
You can turn right onto the southbound U.S. 281 frontage road and enter the southbound U.S. 281 mainlanes using the first available entrance ramp.
The transportation department is in the early final stages of its $1.4 billion plan to increase mobility, reduce congestion and enhance safety on what it says is one of the most congested corridors in Texas.
