HOUSTON, Texas (KTRK) — A driver died, and multiple others were hospitalized after an overnight crash in the city’s west side, according to the Houston Police Department.
HPD Sgt. Mike Barrow said the crash happened at about 10:10 p.m. on Thursday at the intersection of Westheimer and Hillcroft.
Police said they got reports of a driver going at a “high rate of speed” through the intersection before hitting three cars and a utility box.
Barrow said the driver died at the scene, and three other people in the other vehicles were taken to the hospital.
“What we’ve heard from witnesses is that (the driver) was going very fast on the roadway,” Barrow said, adding that it appears the driver was trying to go between several vehicles and ended up hitting them.
Authorities said they’re investigating the cause of the crash and reviewing surveillance video in the area.
Police said the traffic lights at the intersection could be out for some time while the utility box is repaired.
