LUBBOCK, Texas (KCBD) – Democratic Party leaders and grassroots operatives have come to Lubbock over the past couple of days to support challengers running for seats down the midterm ballot.
That includes Beto O’Rourke, a former El Paso congressman who previously ran against Gov. Greg Abbott and Sen. Ted Cruz. His group, Powered by People, went to Texas Tech to get students involved. He said he thinks Lubbock’s young voters may shock Texas in November.
“Lubbock is the kind of place that far too often gets written off or taken for granted or forgotten altogether; that’s why we’re here today. Lubbock is important, Lubbock will turn out, Lubbock will surprise this state on November third,” O’Rourke said.
“And it’s not just Democrats, it’s Republicans, it’s independents, all of us coming together and putting this state before party or any other consideration,” O’Rourke said.
