Guyton missed the team’s final offensive series and was replaced by former first-round pick Broderick Jones. Guyton was seen holding his back and trying to move around during the timeout before the drive, but the team quickly decided to bring him to the locker room. Cowboys owner Jerry Jones said after the game that Guyton was dealing with a strain.
That wasn’t the only good injury news coming out of Sunday’s loss. Wide receiver CeeDee Lamb’s quad injury doesn’t sound like it’s of concern. Lamb was intermittently in on the final drive against the Buccaneers, as well.
Schottenheimer also said that corner Joey Porter Jr. is feeling better after missing Thursday’s game due to illness. Porter wasn’t on the injury report and even showed up to the game before he was ruled out and sent home. On Porter’s initial walk into the locker room he had his hand covering his mouth and appeared to be under the weather. Later, Amazon video cameras caught Porter being escorted out of the locker room by a staff member, who had a garbage can in his hand.
In addition, linebacker DeMarvion Overshown could return to practice this week. Overshown hasn’t played since the season opener due to a hamstring injury. He started working in individual drills earlier this week. Schottenheimer said Overshown had a good day on Friday.
The one injury worth monitoring, according to Schottenheimer, was safety Alijah Clark’s hamstring. Schottenheimer said he’s day-to-day. The Cowboys are already thin at safety with injuries to P.J. Locke and Jalen Thompson. Both are currently on injured reserve.
The Cowboys will get some much-needed rest after playing three games in 12 days. The next time they play will be Oct. 18 in Green Bay.
