A driver is dead after losing control and flipping their car along North Walton Walker Boulevard. Much of the crash was caught on surveillance at a nearby auto shop.
Dallas Police told NBC 5 the call came in around 11:57 p.m. on Thursday night. Officers arrived to find a car flipped over on its top near the intersection of North Walton Walker Boulevard and Singleton Road.
Vengely Rodriguez arrived at his glass auto shop to an active scene.
“We came at 8:00 a.m. when we opened and we happened to see that our car is completely totaled and crashed,” he said.
Surveillance cameras captured the moments a driver careened off the road, hit a parked vehicle, and began flipping before landing upside down. Police tape was still on scene hours later in front of the auto glass shop.
“We see a family crying over the vehicle that our car is positioned at and obviously we rushed to see what was going on,” Rodriguez said. “There was a bunch of damage and glass everywhere.”
Police later said a single white sedan, travelling southbound on North Walton Walker at Singleton Boulevard, veered off the main roadway, drove across a shoulder and grass median, and collided with an unoccupied parked vehicle. The driver of the white sedan was ejected and died.
Rodriguez said he was relieved the shop was closed at the time of the crash.
“Could’ve injured somebody in our workplace or even on the street. It could have been way worse,” he said.
Still, Rodriguez said the images captured on surveillance and on scene will stick with him.
“It’s something you would never wish upon anyone. It was a little traumatic. But thanks to God nothing happened to us and nobody else was injured in the situation. But our prayers go to that family.” He said.
Police have not released the name of the victim in the crash. The cause of the crash is under investigation.
