HOUSTON, Mo. (KY3) -Houston’s homecoming game Friday night turned into a homecoming for the team, too.
Construction delays kept the Tigers off their field for much of the season. The project includes a new natural grass playing surface and an eight-lane track. It’s paid for by Proposition K.I.D.S., a $2.95 million no-levy-increase bond issue for the Houston R-1 School District.
Rick Walker, who played football there in the 1970s, attended Friday’s game. For him and the players’ parents, this first game brought back something they’d missed.
“I actually played the very first game on this field 54 years ago,” said Walker.
“The feeling is different, the atmosphere is different, and I think the boys have missed it a lot, and I know we’re glad to be back,” said Houston football parent Jennifer Shelton.
The district says work on the stadium is still underway. The new track will also give Houston a chance to host track meets again, after more than two decades without them.
