A strong cold front could reach the Austin and San Antonio areas by Friday, October 16, bringing a chance of rain and highs in the 60s. Local meteorologists say temperatures could drop by about 20 degrees, though the forecast may change as the system gets closer.
According to News 4 San Antonio Chief Meteorologist Chris Suchan, the strong cold front remains on trend to hit late next week. He says rain could even be in the forecast.
“Still trending toward a fairly strong cold front late next week. This front would bring a rain chance too. Pretty far out in forecast but early feel suggests potential for highs in 60s-70s are there, cool to chilly mornings too.”
“Still looking REALLY good in the data, especially considering the pumpkin-melting heatwave ahead of it,” Tomasco said.
He went on social media to say the front is most likely to arrive next Friday, though Saturday is also possible. It could be the strongest cold front of the season so far, dropping temperatures by at least 20 degrees. Rain and storms may move through with the front, but forecasters expect a brief round rather than a multi-day event.
Until the potential cold front arrives, San Antonians can enjoy lows in the 70s with rain chances returning, according to the National Weather Service.
“Comfortable humidity lingers Saturday before morning lows rise into the low to mid 70s next week with increased humidity. Rain chances return Monday for locations along and east of the I-35 corridor, before expanding and peaking area wide during Thursday and Friday with an approaching front,” NWS said.
