Rain and muddy conditions dominated much of the conversation as ACL Fest returned to Zilker Park. But those weren’t the only concerns.
Some readers argued that one muddy ACL Fest shouldn’t determine the future of one of Austin’s premier events.
Others said ACL has outgrown Zilker Park and should relocate.
One reader, Ben J., wrote: “ACL made much more sense when it was a single weekend. It was smaller and fit inside the city without closing the park and surrounding roads for months. The growth of the festival in length and attendance has made it incompatible with alternative uses. ACL used to fit alongside a collection of events and activities at the park. Now it supersedes them all. Time to move it.”
While some readers said Circuit of the Americas would be a suitable location, others disagreed.
“Yes, Zilker should stay the home for ACL,” reader Zach K said. “If the city wants to renegotiate the contract with LiveNation to bring more money in or ensure better protections for the park that’s fine, but moving it to another venue (COTA) would be a terrible decision.”
If ACL Fest were to relocate, where should it go?
