HARRIS COUNTY, Texas (KTRK) — A man is in the hospital after a vehicle operated by an ICE agent struck him on Saturday morning in northwest Harris County, deputies said.
According to the Harris County Sheriff’s Office, the incident happened at around 7:20 a.m. on Clay Road near Highway 6 while ICE agents were pursuing a wanted suspect with a warrant.
Deputies said the suspect was driving a white pickup truck westbound in the eastbound lanes when he and his passenger bailed from the pickup and ran away.
An ICE agent tried boxing the passenger into the backside of a building and struck him, HCSO said. Deputies said they believe the man has a broken leg but is stable with non-life-threatening injuries.
Deputies said the injured man has only been identified as a 48-year-old, and he is currently in ICE custody at the hospital. According to the sheriff’s office, the passenger was in the country illegally.
The pickup truck driver got away during the chase and hasn’t been caught, the sheriff’s office said.
The sheriff’s office said ICE notified deputies that it needed emergency services following the crash. Deputies said their investigation will be limited to the crash, and they referred all questions related to the incidents leading up to it to ICE.
