Tarrant County’s workforce board will spend $148.3 million next year, with more than three-quarters going toward childcare.

The Workforce Solutions for Tarrant County and the Workforce Governing Board unanimously approved its fiscal 2027 budget Aug. 26.

The budget is up 7.1% from $138.5 million in fiscal 2026.

Nearly all of that growth is in childcare, which increased $10 million, said Jack Cummings, associate director of administration. Childcare now accounts for $114.4 million, or about 77% of the budget.

Other spending includes $9.9 million for workforce center operations, $9.8 million for board and systemwide infrastructure, and $6.4 million for direct client services.

The board also renewed a contract with Child Care Management Services LLC to continue operating the group’s childcare system until Sept. 30, 2027.

“The extension approval will ensure continuity of high-quality service for families and continuation of services for our childcare services providers and contractors,” said Tiffany Clayton, associate director for childcare program operations for Workforce Solutions for Tarrant County.

Board members chose officers for 2027: Rosa Navejar as the chair, Jerletha McDonald as vice chair, and Jessica Heer as second vice chair.
