Country music legend Willie Nelson has endorsed Texas state Rep. James Talarico in his campaign for the U.S. Senate, adding another high-profile name to the Democrat’s list of supporters ahead of the November midterm elections.
Nelson, a longtime Texas musician and political activist, shared his support for Talarico in a campaign video posted by Team Talarico on social media.
“I’ve gotten to know James Talarico,” Nelson said in the video. “He’s a good man, who will be a good senator for the state of Texas. Please vote and vote for James Talarico.”
The endorsement adds to Talarico’s growing support from prominent musicians. The Houston Chronicle reported that Nelson and Talarico were photographed together backstage at Nelson’s Fourth of July picnic in Austin earlier this year.
Talarico, a Democratic state representative, is seeking a seat in the U.S. Senate as Texas voters prepare for the November election. Nelson’s endorsement gives the campaign support from one of the state’s most recognizable cultural figures.
Nelson has a long history of political involvement and has previously supported Democratic candidates. His backing comes as Talarico works to build support across Texas ahead of the election.
The endorsement was shared through Talarico’s campaign social media account. Nelson’s message urged Texans to vote for the state representative in the upcoming Senate race.
