Houston rapper Paul Wall performed at the Texas State Fair Saturday night shortly after receiving news of his mother’s death because he knew how proud she was of him, the rapper said in a Facebook post Sunday.
Wall said he found out his mother had died while he was on the way to the State Fair in South Dallas Saturday. Wall, who performed with Slim Thug, Lil’ Keke and SlfMade 713, called it “one of the hardest nights of his life.“

“On the way to the State Fair show, I received the heartbreaking news that my mother had passed away,” he wrote. “She was so proud of me to get the opportunity to perform at the State Fair, so with a heavy heart, I still wanted to show up for my fans and give them the performance they came for, and at the same time make my momma proud. Before leaving the stage, I made sure to give my mother her RIP shout-out.”
Wall thanked everyone who reached out and sent prayers to his family.
“Your love and support mean more to me than words can express during this difficult time. Rest peacefully, Mom. I love you forever,” he wrote.
Wall, who first made a name for himself in the early 2000s, has had a packed year of performances.
The Houston rapper appeared at the Houston Livestock Show & Rodeo and Meow Wolf in March before performing at NRG in April alongside $TooShort, Z-RO, 8Ball & MJG, Slim Thug, Trick Daddy, Keke and Devin the Dude.
Wall also released a new song, “Please Don’t Go Girl,” which is about the love he has for his wife. The music video featured couples in Wall’s life whom he admires, including his wife’s aunt and uncle.
