Eleven grocery stores, including several H-E-B locations, received perfect health scores.Thirteen other stores were cited for violations ranging from improper food storage to dirty surfaces.Violations included gnats in produce at a Walmart and cooked brisket stored on the ground at a Banquete store.

In addition to restaurants, the Corpus Christi-Nueces County Public Health District inspects grocery stores and other establishments for health violations.

There are 10 H-E-Bs, five Walmarts, a Target, a Sam’s Club and a Sprouts where most people do their grocery shopping. But there is also a variety of smaller grocery stores in Corpus Christi, such as Community Grocery, Jalisco Supermarket and Middle East Market & Deli.

Here are the health scores of 24 grocery stores in Nueces County and what violations were found since the Caller-Times last reported on grocery stores’ inspections in early April.
